The ICFAI University, Dehradun was established in 2003 by an Act of State Legislature of Uttarakhand State (Uttarakhand Act 16 of 2003) vide Gazette Notification No. 908/Higher Education/2003-03(16) 2003, dated 23rd September 2003.

University Grants Commission (UGC)
The ICFAI University, Dehradun has been listed by the UGC, under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. The University is competent to award Degrees as specified by UGC under section 22 of the UGC Act vide Letter No. F 6-3/2004 (M&E) dated 4th April, 2005.

Distance Eduction Council (DEC)
The ICFAI University, Dehradun has received the recognition of the Distance Education Council for offering programs of the university through distance mode vide letter No. DEC/ICFAI/Dehradun/6165, dated 23rd October, 2007.
